Boris Savchenko Joins the Leaders in the Russian Cup Open Section (Round 7 Report)

With two remaining rounds until the end of the RSSU Cup event of the Moscow 2013, the standings sheet of its main event, the Men's Russian Cup, is lead by three Russian grandmasters: Dmitry Kokarev and  Pavel Ponkratov, who today played each other to a draw, and Boris Savchenko, who defeated  Illya Nyzhnyk from Ukraine. All three have earned 6 points. Just a half-point behind them are 14 competitors. Tomorrow in the penultimate 8th round, Savchenko will face Kokarev, Ponkratov will be matched with the competition's rating-favorite, Yan Nepomniachtchi of Russia.

In the Women's Russian Cup Marina Romanko, as before has a perfect score. Today the Russian chess player secured her seventh victory, outplaying Lanita Stetsko from Belarus. The leader is followed, a point behind, by three Russians: Evgenia Ovod, Lidia Tomnikova and Victoria Tarasova. In the 8th round Romanko will play Ovod, and Tomnikova will play Tarasova.

After a 7th-round victory against Robert Hovannisyan from Armenia, Yury Eliseev, with 5 points, leads the standings in the men's Student-grandmasters' RSSU Cup. The previous leader, Vladimir Belous of Russia, lost to his compatriot Mikhail Mozharov and is now trailing by half a point with a score of 4.5. This score is shared by Alexander Shimanov of Russia, who played with a draw against Alexey Reshetnikov of Russia.

Dinara Saduakasova made another step towards victory in the women's Student-grandmasters' RSSU Cup. Today she played to a draw against one her main competitors, the Russian Darya Pustovoytova. The chess player from Kazakhstan has 5.5 points, leading Pustovoytova by one point. The third and fourth places are shared by the Russians Olga Girya and Anastasia Savina, who have 4 points each. In the 7th round Girya outplayed Varvara Saulina of Russia, Savina - Dina Drozdova of Russia.

Evgeny Sveshnikov of Latvia still holds first place in the veterans' MCF Cup. After a draw with Nikolay Mishuchkov of Russia, his score reached 5.5 points. Just a half-step behind the leader are 10 competitors.

In the Amateurs' MCF Cup Russians are at the lead. As before, Nikita Khoroshilov has lost no points with Ivan Yudin a half-point behind at 6.5. Six chess players have a score of 6.In the next round, the leaders Khoroshilov and Yudin will play each other.
