Yuri Eliseev Maintains his lead in the Student Grandmaster tournament (Round 8 Review)

With only one round left to play at the International RSSU Cup in chess Moscow Open 2013 the winner is not determined in any of the six events for adults.

In the RSSU Cup for students grandmasters Russia's Yury Eliseev achieved the best result by picking up 5.5 points in eight rounds. However, only half a step ahead of three of his compatriots - Alexander Shimanov, Vladimir Belous and Michael Mozharov.

Dinara Saduakasova from Kazakhstan is close to winning the student grandmaster tournament for girls. With one round to go she has 6 points, which is one point ahead of two runner-ups: Russian's Anastasia Savina and Olga Girya.

At the stage of the Russian Cup for men the situation is even more complex than even. The total of seven players are tied for the lead here  - 6.5 points out of 8 - Russia's Yan Nepomniaschii, Pavel Maletin, Boris Savchenko, Dmitry Kokarev, Ildar Khairullin, Pavel Smirnov and Azerbaijan's Rauf Mamedov.

Following her seven wins in a row Russia's Marina Romanko took a short break today, ending her game against her compatriot Evgeniya Ovod in a draw. Romanko still still the field, half-a-point ahead of Lydia Tomnikova (Russia). The fourth and fifth places are shared by Evgenia Ovod and Tatiana Khlichkova (both - Russia), who have scored 6.5 points.

Evgeny Sveshnikov (Latvia) on the verge of victory in the veterans' tournament. The grandmaster scored 7 points. Half a point behind him are Nikolay Mishuchkov, Vladimir Zavyalov and Vladimir Cachar (all - Russia).

Russia's Nikita Khoroshilov leads the field in the tournament for amateurs. After a draw in the eighth round his score is 7.5 points. Ivan Uraev Ivan, Ivan Yudin and Airat Vafin (all - Russia) are half a point behind.

Game of the final, ninth, rounds of competition will take place on Sunday 10 February. Games start at 11:00. We would liek to add that the award ceremony and closing ceremony will begin at 16:00 in the auditorium of the first building RSSU.
